RBC WM Sets Out Next Phase Of European Growth

RBC Wealth Management Europe has announced that it aims to hire more than 70 expert advisors as part of its next phase of growth.

RBC Wealth Management has announced the next stage of its Strategic Hiring Programme with plans to hire more than 70 client-facing professionals across the UK, Jersey and the Republic of Ireland by the end of 2027.

The firm's hiring programme to accelerate growth has been running since the start of this financial year and has already resulted in more than 20 external candidates accepting offers to join RBC, it said in a statement.

Appointments have been made across a number of offices including London, Bath, Cambridge, Marlborough, Bristol and Edinburgh, with further appointments expected in the coming months.

The programme is part of RBC Wealth Management’s wider European growth strategy, ensuring that  the firm has the skills, talent and technology in place to meet clients’ evolving needs.

“It comes after RBC made significant investment in wealth management in Europe, notably via its 2022 acquisition of UK wealth management firm Brewin Dolphin and it is looking to build on these foundations to accelerate growth,” a spokesperson told WealthBriefing.

It also builds on the recent appointment of Robin Beer and Sian Hurrell as co-CEOs of RBC Europe. Beer is remaining as CEO of RBC Wealth Management Europe and Hal Catherwood has become managing director, with responsibility for all client-facing businesses including RBC Brewin Dolphin, private wealth and international trusts. In addition, Nicholas Oliver has been appointed managing director, head of RBC Brewin Dolphin, including intermediaries and charity channels, whilst continuing as head of client advice.

“Our plan is to become the leading advice-led wealth manager in Europe, attract and develop the very best people, and invest in technology that frees our advisors to do what they do best – supporting our clients,” Catherwood said. “These new hires are part of our growth strategy and sit alongside our deployment of new technology, focus on internal talent development and investment in new services which will help us support our clients to achieve their financial goals now and into the future.”

Recent promotions include Jon Godfrey becoming the head of office, West of England, and Sean Priestley becoming head of office for the South West of England. These promotions sit alongside the recent announcement of Alisdair Dewar joining the Edinburgh team as head of office earlier in the year.
